BIO AND STATEMENT

Izzy Stark is an artist based in her second home, Sarasota, Florida. Originally from rural Illinois, she traded cornfields for sandy shores when she moved to Florida in 2015. She received a foundational art education within the Visual and Performing Arts program at Sarasota’s own Booker High School, graduating with honors in 2020. In 2024, Izzy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Art History from Florida International University in Miami.

Returning to Sarasota, FL, Izzy worked within the Department of Academic Affairs at Ringling College of Art and Design, where she supported the administration of three academic majors.

She now works as the Exhibitions and Digital Media Coordinator at Art Center Sarasota.

Izzy is also a member of SartQ, a well-known Sarasota-based collective of accomplished local artists committed to community collaboration and curating local exhibitions. Izzy sits on the Collective’s exhibitions committee, organizing group exhibitions, community outreach, and collaborative efforts between artists within the Sarasota region.

My work is rooted in the blunt, often humorous narrative of my lived experiences. I react to and reflect on the world around me; each work a response to my present environment and the stories it holds. My process is intuitive and instinctive; every decision in color, form, and composition shapes the next, creating an evolving conversation on the canvas.

My work acts as both mirror and filter, a way to process themes of womanhood, queerness, and the forces that challenge my own identity. I often work with text and graphic design elements to deliberately inform the audience and deepen the interaction. I find the most fulfillment when my work invites a response, when it becomes a shared dialogue rather than just an angsty expression. Through this, I hope to plant seeds of connection and community. My goal is to create a space where my internal world meets public discourse.
